Introducing the Borderlands Whisky Festival: A Celebration of Whisky From Both Sides Of The Border.
The team behind the annual Fife Whisky Festival are now bringing their passion for whisky, and their expertise in creating highly acclaimed whisky events, to Lockerbie in the autumn.
Whisky enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike are invited to embark on an immersive journey at the inaugural Borderlands Whisky Festival. Set to take place on Saturday, 12th October 2024, at the historic Lockerbie Town Hall, this festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the rich heritage and craft, not only of distilleries nestled in the border regions, but also of whisky producers from further afield. Fife Whisky Festival co-founders Karen Somerville and Justine Hazlehurst have taken their blueprint for a successful event and are sharing it with a whole new audience.
Karen Somerville said “It is the next step for us as a business to take what we achieve in Fife to a whole new area.”
Ms Hazlehurst added: “We’re always keen to share our passion for whisky whilst making sure that the ethos of our festivals - that they should also benefit the local community – is upheld.”
Borderlands Whisky Festival shines a spotlight on the distilleries in the distinctive border area across Scotland and England. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a diverse range of whiskies from renowned producers such as The Borders Distillery, based in Hawick; Ad Gefrin Distillery, based in Wooler, as well as Dumfries and Galloway’s own Bladnoch and Moffat distilleries. In addition, there’ll also be whisky producers from beyond the Borderlands, showcasing their whisky wares, throughout the day on 12th October.
Situated in the picturesque town of Lockerbie, the Borderlands Whisky Festival offers convenient access from various locations across the region. Direct train services from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle, as well as good bus connections with nearby towns, make it the perfect location for whisky enthusiasts to explore the diverse offerings available on the day.
Drawing inspiration from the vibrant ambiance of the renowned Fife Whisky Festival, the Borderlands Whisky Festival promises an atmosphere filled with camaraderie, discovery, and celebration of the Water of Life. As well as the many distilleries, independent bottlers and whisky producers exhibiting at both festival sessions, there’ll be a programme of engaging masterclasses led by industry experts.
Whether you're a seasoned whisky aficionado or simply curious to explore the world of whisky, the Borderlands Whisky Festival invites you to discover the rich tapestry of flavours, stories, and traditions at this inaugural celebration.
